Excellent points here, BG. I am making an effort to go with solid proteins too. Candy is definitely a trigger food for me - I simply cannot eat just one. So I'm trying to go cold turkey on candy for the weight loss phase because it's essentially a slider and I know it's what is hampering my weight loss at the moment.

Thanks for pointing these things out. I do tend to overeat dips, so it's something I'll have to try to see if I can handle it reasonably.

As always, love the visual!

I could not agree more! You ever try hummus on a sammich instead of mayo? Something to consider.

I am totally with you on the dips and hummus. I will go nuts on dips...and have, unfortunately. I don't keep them around much aside from salsa--it's not a trigger for me as I rarely eat it without it being on a taco or some other Mexican dish. I am trying to do more solid proteins too (although I haven't completely cut out everything non-solid).

This is such helpful information!

Thank you!

Awesome post! I am like you, I don't do the protein diet foods, prepackaged frozen meals or low fat/fat free stuff. I do go for the "shake" but I pack it with fruit and Greek yogurt and other things to make it more substantial than just a protein shake.

I've never tried Kashi Go Lean Cereal and now I know to not start. :)

Yeah I am really trying to leave the diet behaviour out the picture. I am just learning which foods work for my band and which do not. I still have a protein shake or a smoothy in the morning when I have to eat and run cause my band is usually tight until about 10 so it goes down well. I am not a big fan of protein shakes but it helps me on days when my protein is low.. Which I have had lol. Cause dang still getting use to this band. Thanks again for all the good info...

Very interesting-- but I would love to hear what you ARE eating...

I find myself eating alot of cheese and 1% milk (in latte's) lately. Alot of fish.

trying to get in more veggies-- not that much fresh fruit right now and I'm a little confused about how to proceed...

I've been really trying to eat more "real" food and avoid all that processed crap. I also avoid SF & low/no fat stuff (except 2% milk & cottage cheese)because I think it is far less satisfying.

Great post. I am working on making my own solid meals and getting away from the processed crap. I agree, sliders won't help me lose weight. And I miss fruits and veges. I used to eat tons of veges and can now only manage a few bites.

I do like those Yoplait shakes though.. I keep thinking it is just like ice cream... great info in your posts.. please share more.. Hope your GB is not acting up... stay warm..

Your blogs are so informative. I think as I get closer to my banding I'll just read your blog from beginning to end in preparation. :)

I totally agree. I am also trying to get to a healthy "real food" stage once I have my surgery. Things like dips and hummus are HUGE trigger foods for me. I had never thought of it until this post. I was asked to make a list of trigger foods and I am now putting that at the top of the list. Thanks for some great points.

Graet tips thanks. I agree with most of it. I use homous with vegies or as a spread on crackers. I like a protein shake in the am occasionally but don't consider it a diet food anymore just a good way to have some ptroein in the am if I do not feel like eating. I also did this preband too. Protein bars are for emergencies only and I prefer real food to either of these....keep up the great info fest...I love it
