I still drink a ton of mix-ins with my water, but was a little nervous about the crystal light because of the aspartame. I found a brand of mix in's called 4C and it uses splenda as its sweetener. So I guess if i'm going to use one, then this one is best. Thanks for all the information!
I can't do SF stuff - or fake sugar stuff. I tend to not go for sweets, anyway, and my measure for if I want something is 'if I could eat this with a SF version or even with Stevia, would I still want it?' Generally I say no. So I don't want it. So I don't eat it.
I've found some interesting things, too. A friend turned me onto a yogurt parfait for desert. Used natural organic yogurt and added Stevia to sweeten it. At the bottom of the cup was a tsp of honey, followed by a scoop of fresh fruit all topped with the yogurt. On top of that, granola.
Well...turns out...I like it a zillion times better without the honey OR the Stevia. Just yogurt, fresh fruit and granola.
Check things out - sometimes no sweetener is actually better.
(Just adding some thoughts to the mix...not trying to replace info.)
And that's good to know, Kristen. I do drink SF Kool-Aid so 4C sounds much better since Kool-Aid uses aspartame.
LD- No, PLEASE add thoughts, that's how I/others learn new things!! The parfait sounds like just my thing. I wish I didn't have a 'chocolate tooth' and I agree, regular sugar is better for you. Thanks for the 4C tip Kristen, I've never heard of it before. I had a hard time giving up my Crystal Light!
It's the sugar alcohols that are my enemy! Even as a non-banded person I couldn't have anything that had an ingredient that ended in 'tol' lol Malitol Sorbitol etc But then again I've never really been much of a sweet eater, right now my craving is for garlic bread LOL
Great post! I can't do the sugar alcohols...not good! I have given up almost all SF stuff, except the Propel water mix-ins, which use Splenda. I also use Splenda for my oatmeal. Chocolate...You probably heard me rave about the benefits. I get the really good stuff - organic, very high cacao content, and real sugar. Then just eat 100 cals worth or less. Still, not sure if doing that every day is a good idea! I need to temper my chocolate enthusiasm!

ReplyDeleteI love your philosophy! I know I couldn't give up sweets forever and the end result is usually a binge when I try.
ReplyDeleteHave you read any of the Michael Pollan books (For The Love of Food, etc.)? I think they would be right up your alley! Very informational!
ReplyDeleteGilly...thanks! Just looked him up and it sounds just like what I strive for...real foods! I'll have to read it!
ReplyDeleteThanks for all the good info!!!!!!
